Every cost range on this site is built from multiple data sources: contractor surveys across major metro areas, distributor pricing for common materials (GAF, CertainTeed, Owens Corning, IKO), regional labor cost indexes from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, and permit data from municipal building departments. We cross-reference against homeowner-reported costs from home improvement communities where available.
Insurance claim guides draw on publications from the Insurance Institute for Business and Home Safety (IBHS), state insurance department consumer resources, and analysis of standard homeowners policy language. We update material and labor cost data twice per year — in January and July — to reflect current pricing conditions. The "Updated 2026" badge means the data has been reviewed in the current calendar year.
